You
no longer need to battle with the crowds on Majorca or the
Costa Del Sol tourist "hotspots" to find room for your towel.
Hop on a plane to Barcelona, Reus or even the Valencia airport.
Hire a car and after a pleasant drive you will come upon the
most amazing Costa Daurado region of Catalonia and the magnificent
delta region of the Ebro river.
The
Ebre Delta is a natural Park area with over 365 bird species,
quiet beaches and the terrain is ideal for cycling and walking.
Fishing is both on the river and sea fishing and boat trips
for all tastes.

Great
boat trips from the Delta to the Med. |
|

Numerous
walking trips are well sign-posted. |
Costa
Daurado is a gastronomical delight! Accompanied with good Cava
from the north in Penedes and Terra Alta wines. So many restaurants
to choose from, all with their own specialities. Different fiestas
bring out different traditional dishes to savour. Remember eating
a meal in Catalonia is both a hobby and an art in itself. So
donīt expect to be in and out in a hour. Lunch (dinner) can
roll on well into the siesta break with the locals joining in,
eager to share their experiences and outlook on life in general.
This is one of the few places you can travel alone and not be
on your own for long. |
|
Then
venture inland for a 20 minutes drive, visit this lovely area
for fishing, hiking, boating, cycling, riding and utter peaceful
relaxation to watch the natural panorama of flora and fauna.
Have
your own great barbecues or eat out at some of the many excellent
Spanish restaurants or local "half-British" pubs. This is
the new tourist area of Spain. Bring a book or hire a movie
from town. Then just relax in the sun (300 days per year)
before the rest of the world discovers what a bargain it is
in the mountainous coastal area of Catalonia - Spain. |

If
you enjoy art and history this area is steeped in it from
the Moors and Templets castles, the Spanish Civil war, Roman
ruins in Tarragona, cave paintings in Ulldecona, Picasso
and Gaudi but to name a few.
Yet
for those who enjoy a livelier night, discos and clubs are
to be found in the major towns, and the coastal resorts
abound with musical pubs.
|
|
Watersports
abound here. Windsurfing is very popular from this area as
well as sailing and scuba diving from the coves higher up
the coast.
Horse
riding for the whole family is also becoming very popular
in this area where you will be in the careful hands of expert
instructors.
And, of
course, Spain is almost as cycling mad as France. |
